behind the scenes at Oasis Care

OUR ETHOS

Oasis Care offers bespoke care within a residential children’s home setting. Our homes are registered for either male or female young people aged 8-17.

Oasis Care have created an environment where young people feel safe, happy, healthy, and cared for and can develop and thrive. We support them to fulfil their potential and this is underpinned using our CALM approach and ethos. CALM stands for Communication, Awareness, Listening, and Motivation. Our homes are structured, so the staff can promote our CALM ethos and make them a warm nurturing place to live. Quite often in an emergency situation, young people can feel they have no one to turn to, we will provide a bridging placement and support for those young people whilst a more suitable, permanent placement is identified.

Oasis Care is outward facing, working within a wider system of professionals for each child. We also aim to work with the children’s families and communities of origin to help sustain links and understand past issues. We have high expectations of our staff teams and will fully support them in their role as decision-makers and as activities leaders. To fulfil their roles our staff and managers will be fully trained and also engaged in ongoing learning through our training and development programme.

Our Care

We are a Residential childcare organisation based in the North of England, providing nurturing full-time care for young people aged between 8-17.

As an organisation our mission is:

To provide unrivalled levels of care, support and education to our young people. The objective being to develop levels of maturity and assist in enabling individuals to function effectively within society as successful, independent adults.

Experienced and Trained Staff

Oasis Care is a new company, but we have a wealth of experience in all areas. We employ qualified, appropriately trained, and experienced staff, all of whom have a background working with young people in a residential setting, who display emotional and behavioural difficulties.

We undertake a thorough risk assessment for all our activities based on the individual young person and we have robust safety procedures in place. We follow standard Missing from Home protocols and complete appropriate and relevant Key work sessions, which are identified on an individual basis and agreed through the Social Care team. This assists in identifying triggers and then supporting the young person to develop coping strategies. Communication is crucial in any placement and we maintain regular contact with Social workers and provide weekly updates on their progress.

AIM

Our AIM is to provide what we affectionately term as “Breathing space in a safe place” for the local authority and the young people within a regulated provision inspected by Ofsted. This is to say we can provide short, medium or long term placements.

CALM

Oasis Care has devised a method for developing children’s social care programs and plans for placement, which we refer to as CALM. Communication, Awareness, Listening and Motivation.

GOAL

Oasis Care’s primary GOAL is to provide local authorities with a safe and secure placement that meets the needs of the individual young person. Our dedicated Management and staff team are there to ensure each part of the young person’s care plan is not only met, but exceeded where possible.

Working in Partnership with The Local Authorities

Oasis Care works in partnership with the local authorities to support the young person through any challenging period. We aim to provide stability and structure, which in turn allows them the opportunity to re-engage and re-focus. Oasis Care aims to provide a positive and stable environment that can be used as a constructive platform upon which to build.

We provide a consistent, open, and honest approach to ensure the young people can talk to staff and communicate their feelings in such a way that makes it feel inclusive rather than intrusive.

24/7 CARE

Our homes work on a clearly defined minimum staffing ratio of one member of staff to one young person. Increased individual support can be provided if required. We will always have two members of staff on each shift and also a minimum of two staff sleeping in overnight.

Our management team is available for support 24-7.

Part of The Community

Our homes will be established in carefully chosen locations, and form part of a local community. We have set out to open a broad mix of homes from large detached properties to homes in rural areas and smaller homes in urban communities. Where a young person is placed will depend upon their individual need and circumstances at the time of referral.

We will try to ensure that young people can have access to the local and wider community with staff’s support, and we will work closely with the local authority and the services they provide.

It is vital that our homes play a full and active role in their local community, with our relationships within that local community being of paramount importance to us.
